A Great Day Out!
Our class had an amazing day out today visiting Mary Immaculate College. We took part in a "Bricks4Kidz" workshop in the Craftmakers Space of MIC. Our challenge was to make aeroplanes which ran on a motor and had landing gear. We had so much fun!

New Year, New Knowledge!
1st & 2nd Class have hit the ground running in Term 2. We have been very busy bees since coming back to school - and we have lots to show for it.
We have been using our iPads to refresh our number sense by ordering numbers. We love playing these games in school and they certainly serve as a nice treat every now and again.
In art, we practiced our drawing skills by sketching our favourite toys from home. Take a look at the pictures above, we think we're very talented!
In Gaeilge this month, we started using our amazing new BluBots to practice our coding skills and Gaeilge vocabulary all at the same time. Ms. O'Dwyer told us that we are very lucky because we are the first class in the school to get to use them. How cool!
We've all been having some "fraction fun" in maths since we returned. Halves and quarters are a tricky business but important to know so that no one can cheat us out of our fair share of pizza ever again. VERY important information if you ask us!
What a busy time we've had so far this term and we've only just started!

Busy Times in 1st & 2nd Class
Midterm to Christmas is always an exciting time in our school, especially with Christmas pageant practice coming our way in early December. In addition to all the lovely preparation we got to be part of for this, we still managed to squeeze in a few other bits & pieces!
First Class did lots of work on addition and subtraction using ten frames, which was a super way of challenging our great brains.
Our class examined sound over these past few weeks. This included learning about our ears; how our hearing works; and discovering that sound travels through the air in sound waves. These then cause vibrations in our ears which leads to us hearing things in the world around us. We demonstrated this using water, food dye and a tuning fork. We also used rice, clingfilm and a tuning fork to see this in another way. We were fascinated by what we saw!
Jimbob, our class elf, saw us through December. Despite an unexpected injury, he loved his time with us - even if we were a little too noisey for him at times!
Of course, our Christmas Pageant was the highlight of our term! Our class were a mixture of Christmas Children, angels and shepherds. We all did an amazing job and are very proud of ourselves. Merry Christmas everyone!

Off to a Great Start!
Our first few weeks in 1st & 2nd Class have been very busy! The children have been working very hard and have done a great job at settling back into school. Our class have done lost of fun activities during the first half-term.
We have been delighted to use some new maths resources to support the new Primary Maths Curriculum, which has come into effect from Junior Infants - 2nd Class this year. We have had some very interesting “maths conversations” and have examined different ways of expressing our maths-thinking.
The children learned about their teeth this term - how to look after our teeth, as well has how many teeth we have and their various functions. We made models of our mouths using paper and marshmallows. They were great fun to play with!
In October, we had a school trip to Curraghchase. It was a very exciting day spent out in nature. Before our trip, our class learned all about the lifecycle of the oak tree. We managed to find a few oak trees in Curraghchase on our day trip.
Another fun activity we completed was learning about and creating our own sundials. People in the past were very clever to use sundials in order to tell the time, but we agree that our modern analogue and digital clocks certainly have made life easier.
We have done a lot of work on our narrative writing genre this term and we have learned about using capital letters, full stops and question marks. Our iPad games help us to revise our spelling and phonics lessons each week. They are great fun to engage with during our English stations.
Our class is looking forward to a well deserved week off soon and we are excited for the next half-term ahead. Who knows what we’ll get up to!?

Storytime with Róisín Meaney in the Library
We had a wonderful time in our local library listening to the well established author Róisín Meaney.
The children were hanging on her every word!
Thank you Róisín & Mark (our librarian)!
