Scoil Chaitríona love to move, can you keep up with our groove!!
Welcome to our Active School page.
The Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education and Skills initiative supported by Healthy Ireland, and part of the National Physical Activity Plan.
The ASF initiative provides schools with a framework to guide, support and incentivise them to work towards achieving a physically educated and physically active school community.
In June 2021, Scoil Chaitríona was awarded our First Active School flag. We were delighted to have our past pupils and also members of the original Active Flag Team help raise this flag.
Well done to all the boys and girls for the effort they made to ensure our school fulfilled all requirements.

Physical Education (P.E.)
In Scoil Chaitríona each class receives 1 hour of formal physical education per week. In accordance with the Department of Education's Primary School Curriculum classes follow the 6 strands from the Primary School Curriculum;
Games - The games strand fosters the child’s natural tendency to play through informal play activities. It enhances the development of basic skills, and many opportunities are provided for social interaction. Playground games, co-operative games and games traditional to the school or locality should be considered when planning a programme for the school.
Athletics - The athletics strand provides a variety of opportunities to engage in the natural activities of walking, running, jumping and throwing.
Gymnastics - Gymnastics in education is concerned with the use of movement in a creative way in response to set tasks, both individually and with others. Children explore movement on the floor and when negotiating a variety of equipment.
Dance - Dance in education involves the child in creating, performing and appreciating movement as a means of expression and communication. The dance programme involves the child in a range of creative and folk dance.
Outdoor & Adventure -Outdoor and adventure activities are facets of the physical education curriculum concerned with walking, cycling, camping and water-based activities, orienteering, and outdoor challenge activities.
