Back to school 2022
We are approaching the end of our summer holidays and we hope you are all refreshed and ready to return to school on Wednesday 31st of August. In advance of this we would like to share some important news with you. During the summer we appointed some new staff members.

We are delighted to welcome our new staff members to our growing team and look forward to them sharing their talents with us and building relationships in the school community.
Just a reminder that all Junior Infant children will be collected at 12pm from Wednesday the 31st August until Friday 17th September. Also the children in Mrs. Smith's class will be going home at 12pm for the month of September.
Please make sure you have all your children's school books and that they are covered in plastic and labelled. Booklists are on the school website on the HOME page. Uniforms are available from Fennessy's on William St.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Thank you to everyone in the Scoil Chaitríona community for all the support we have been shown this year. We have had wonderful year and it has been so good to get back to normal. We look forward to great things happening next year. We bid farewell to our Graduating Class of 2022 and we wish them well in their new Secondary Schools. Have a safe and Happy Summer.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
CLASS OF 2022
On Monday 2oth June we had our End of Year Mass and our Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2022. We were delighted to welcome past pupils from the Class of 2021 and 2020 who didn't get to celebrate their graduation due to the pandemic. We had a beautiful service in the church and the children enjoyed a party and photo and interview session back in the school after. Many thanks to Mrs Smith and Breda for all their hard work in preparing for this and giving the children a memorable send off. .
TOP FUNDRAISER FOR SCOIL CHAITRÍONA SCHOOL WALK
A great big thank you to Leo and his family for raising over €300 for our school walk. He put in a huge effort as did all our families and we are very grateful for all the efforts families continue to make on behalf of our school.

Our Active Week was a great success and it was wonderful to see the children enjoying so many sports and fun activities. It was so nice to finish off the week with sports day and an ice cream to cool us all down from the running and racing. A big thank you to Ms Sheehy for organising this year's

A GREAT DAY WITH DARTS LEGEND
William O' Connor -THE MAGPIE
We were over the moon to welcome darts legend and local hero William O' Connor, father of our own Liam O' Connor. He gave so much time to us and the children enjoyed every second with him. They saw the connection between darts and maths and learned so much from him. It was a great occasion for the whole school. Many thanks to William for his time and the gifts for the school.
SOCCER WORKSHOP WITH CARA AND NAOISE
June 3rd: We were delighted to welcome back two of our prized and talented past pupils Cara and Naoise Griffin with Shane Ryan from Treaty United, to hold a workshop with 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class. They had a great session and the girls were a great example to our own present pupils.
RIVER CLEAN UP
June 3rd: Well done to 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class for doing their civic duty and supporting our Green Flag activities. They took it upon themselves to do a clean up by the bank of the local river. It is so important that we instill pride and respect in our village in our children.
JUNIOR SCHOOL TOUR 2022
June 3rd: What an amazing day Ms, Sheehy's , Ms. Cregan's and Ms. Sadlier's classes had today. It was packed full of fun and laughter which was well deserved after no tour for the past three years. Adventure World in UL was outstanding. Lots of tired children and staff heading home after a great day.

MAY PROCESSION
We have a long standing tradition of holding the May Procession in Scoil Chaitríona. We held this in the convent gardens as we always do and Doireann was the lucky girl who got to crown Our Lady as Queen of the May.
OUR NEW SCHOOL CREST
Scoil Chaitríona is changing and we recently held a competition to design our new school crest. We got some fantastic entries and our overall winner was Isabelle Veale. We are very proud of our new crest.
GIRLS FOOTBALL
Well done to the Girls 7-a-side Football team who bravely faced Caherconlish and Bilboa and the rain.
LIAM Mc CARTHY COMES TO SCOIL CHAITRÍONA
On Wednesday the 18th of May member of the U20 Limerick Hurling team arrived with the Liam McCarthy Cup accompanied by Callum who was our GAA trainer earlier this year. There was great excitement and everyone got their hands on Liam. Let's hope we hold on to it this year again. Luimneach Abú.
SENIOR SCHOOL TOUR 2022
On Friday 13th of May the children and staff from 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th finally got to go on their school tour. In May 2020 we were supposed to travel to Ballyhass in Co. Cork for an amazing activity day and two years later they did not let us down. The children had a brilliant day with fun, games, team building exercises and lots of pizza. A great day was had by all.

THE BEEMAN CAME TO SCOIL CHAITRÍONA
On April 26th Dale from Heritage ireland came to speak to every class about the importance of bees to our environment. He also made bee holders with wood where the bees drop off their pollen. Dale was really fascinating and spoke also about birds and insects in our environment and shared his love of dinosaurs with the children.
We stand with the Ukraine
Well done to all our children and families for supporting our fundraiser for the people in the Ukraine. All money will be sent to the Red Cross to aid the people in war torn Ukraine.
Reminder
Admissions for the forthcoming year 2022-2023 need to be submitted by the 30th April. Forms can be downloaded from the school website under the policies tab, Admissions Section or can be requested from our school secretary.
Saturday 2nd of April is World Autism Awareness Day
On Wednesday the 30th March, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th all went to the UL Arena for an amazing day participating in the Athletics Day run by Limerick Sports Partnership. The children have been training, with their teachers, for this event for the last number of weeks and the fitness and stamina of the children has really developed so well. Well done to all who participated in this event and a great day was had by all.
Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh
16/3/'22 - Today the children dressed up in all their St Patrick's Day finery. It was heart warming to see the sea of green across the yard and sun shining down on them. We also had our school raffle out on the yard and the winners are as follows:

Ceol agus Craic i Scoil Chaitríona
15/3/'22 -Inniu bhíomar ag damhsa agus ag canadh i gclós na scoile ag céiliúradh Seachtain na Gaeilge. Bhain gach páiste taitneamh as an gceolchoirm beag a bhí againn tar éis am lón. Bhí Iníon Ní Bhriain ar fheabhas ag damhsa dos na páistí. Bhí ionadh an domhain orthu go léir.
Today we were dancing and singing in the school yard, celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge. Every child thoroughly enjoyed our little concert after lunch. Miss O' Brien was very impressive, dancing for the children. They were all amazed at her.

3/3/'22 - WORLD BOOK DAY TABLE QUIZ
We held a whole school table quiz in the school hall on Thursday to celebrate World Book Day and all questions were based on books studied by the children in school and their own prior knowledge of literature. It was so much fun and marked the first time the children have actually taken part in a whole school activity indoors since the start of covid - almost two years ago. Many thanks to Mrs. Smith for organising the questions and the whole staff for helping out on the day.
2/3/'22 Florrie the dog came to visit
Today Michelle came from Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland and introduced us all to Florrie who is a dog in training to help children with Autism. We had very insightful conversations with Michelle and really enjoyed seeing Florrie in action. Thanks to Ms. Sadlier for organising this. Donations to this very worthwhile charity can be made via Aladdin.
23/2/'22 - CAKE SALE FUNDRAISER
Many thanks to all the families who supported our Parents Association Fundraiser. As always the support has been overwhelming with all the baked and brought goodies. A special word of thanks to our Parent's Association Chairperson, Elaine O' Brien, for all her assistance on the day.
We raised an amazing €476 on the day and that will go towards ICT in the school.
The County Cup comes to Scoil Chaitríona
23/3/'22 -Thank you so much to Muireann Creamer, from the Cappamore and Limerick Camogie Team and also a past pupil of Scoil Chaitríona, who brought the cup for winning the Intermediate County Championship,to show all the boys and girls. Hon Cappamore
14/2/'22 - New Whiteboards installed.
Today we had two state of the art whiteboards installed in Ms. Cregan and Mrs. Smith's Classrooms. These boards will greatly enhance the children's learning experience. They were partly funded by the Department of Education and our Parent's Association.

16/12/'21 - Scoil Chaitríona are so delighted with William O'Connor's win against Danny Lauby in the PDC World Darts Championship. He is now through to the second round. Scoil Chaitríona and especially all our 3rd Class are rooting for William.

Halloween Cake Sale Oct 2021
22/10/'21 - What an amazing display of cakes, buns and cookies we had for our cake sale on our last day before Mid Term . Despite not having our usual coffee morning for the local community, we managed to raise a whopping €566.85. We can't thank our parents enough for all their support and generosity and also our Parent's Association for providing every child with a goodie bag for the Halloween break. Well done also to the children from 6th class who organised the cake sale and made sure it all ran smoothly.
School Dinner 2021
How happy we all were to have our traditional School Dinner served up to us by our brilliant Parent's Association. We went for an Italian theme and had spaghetti bolognese and of course we had to have ice-cream and jelly. The children said it was the nicest dinner ever and many came back for seconds and could have had thirds except we ran out of food. Many thanks to Elaine, Clodagh, Sheila and all our wonderful parents for producing such a splendid feast.
Let's Go Fly a Kite
8/10/21 - Our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes got an amazing opportunity this week to take part in the engineering workshop coordinated by Mary Immaculate College for Space Week. The children were supplied with all the materials and the knowledge to design and create their own kites. What a fantastic, creative group they are. Many thanks to Mrs. Blake for organising this and to Glen and all the team in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
National Tree Day 2021 in Scoil Chaitríona
7/10/'21 - Today we celebrated National Tree Day and to mark it we planted a pear tree in the school garden. Our oldest pupil, Leon, was given the honour of planting the tree with Mrs. Blake. We look forward to watching it grow and hopefully will sample it's fruits in years to come.
17/9/'21 -We really enjoyed the visit from Ger and his funny, furry, farm friends. Ger was very lucky to go home with all his animals as they were a big hit with all the children. Thanks to Mrs Blake for organising this event and thanks to our Parents Association for supporting it.

13/9/'21 - Well done to all our children and parents/ guardians for all their creativity today. Roald Dahl would be very proud of the children of Scoil Chaitríona honouring the characters of his books in such glory. We had so many Matildas and Willie Wonkas, the Fantastic Mr. Fox and Verukas, we had Charlie Bucketts and Grandpa Joes, Oompa Loompas and even Mr and Mrs. Twit. We hope they all enjoyed this special day and that it encourages children to explore the literature of Roald Dahl.

9/9/'21 - Just a reminder to all families that a meeting of our Parents Association will be held on Monday 13th of September at 8.30pm in the school to reinstate the current committee.During the meeting they will be discussing fundraising for the school year ahead. Monies raised will benefit all our children .We need the support of parents to continue to plan events to help generate money for the school . A big thank you to all the parents that supported us last year .Your attendance to the AGM would be much appreciated.

22/8/'21 - A very warm welcome back to all our students and a special welcome to all our new Junior Infants and our new students. Before we start our new school year on Monday 30th August, there are a few pieces of information we wish to share with you from the Department of Education and Science. Please make sure to check the booklists on the website to ensure you have all the correct books and that they are labelled on the outside of the book. Full school uniform on Monday morning, not tracksuits and make sure you have a good night's sleep. We look forward to seeing you all.
