END OF YEAR MASS

GRADUATION FOR CLASS OF 2023
21/6/'23 Today we celebrated in End of Year mass in St. Michael's Church with Fr. Brown celebrating mass for us. The children sang beautifully and it was a lovely occasion to mark the end of the school year.
We also said goodbye to our 6th Class pupils who have now completed their primary school years and are moving on to secondary school. We had a very special ceremony in the school with the children, parents and staff and they got a very memorable send off.

It was a lovely surprise when the children heard the familiar tune of the ice cream van as it pulled up to the school to give all the children and staff a cool summer treat.

Tasty Treats After a Great Win
Our Cumann na mBunscol players got a lovely treat after they all played so well.
CUMANN NA mBUNSCOIL WINNERS
Well done to our boys hurling team who were victorious today against Cloverfield and brought the cup back to Scoil Chaitríona. Our girls played their hearts out too but unfortunately it did not go their way. We are so proud that our girls got so far in the competition. Well done again to all.
MORE GOOD NEWS
Our girls camogie team have also gotten through to the Cumann na mBunscoil final. A great achievement for all.
GREAT NEWS FOR SCOIL CHAITRÍONA
22/5/'23 We have lots of good news to share. We are delighted to let you know that our boys hurling team have gotten through to the Cumann na mBunscoil final. Well done to the boys and to Ms. Power for training them.
We are also delighted to share that we have been awarded the Curious Minds Gold Science award for our studies and investigations in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. We couldn't have done this without the cooperation of the children and teachers and we are especially grateful to Ms. O' Dwyer and Ms. Armitage for all their hard work.
Staff and pupils attended the Green Flag award ceremony in Cork last week where we were awarded our Maritime Flag. This was a huge achievement for our school and they all had a wonderful day. We are very proud of our continued work to support and educate our children in protecting our environment.
MARINE ACTION DAY
12/5/'23 To support our Green Flag and our Marine Environment studies we held a special Marine Action Day where the children dressed in blue and white and we supported the Whale and Dolphin Foundation. We can't believe the efforts families went to in supporting this special day. Well done.
COMMUNION CLASS 2023
Congratulations to our second class children who received their First Holy Communion last Saturday, the 6th of May. Our children looked so beautiful and were excellent on the day. A special thanks to Ms. Cregan and Ms. Sheehy for preparing them so well and also to Ms. Armitage. Ms. O' Brien and the children for providing the music on the day.
GREEN FLAG AWARD
Our school has been awarded it's next GREEN FLAG where we focused on the Marine Environment. A huge thank you to Ms. Cregan for her constant efforts to educate our children and promote the protection of the environment.

STANDING DESKS
This week the children tried standing desks. Standing desks are becoming more popular in the workplace and are proven to have many benefits for your health, posture, energy levels and productivity.

Well done to all our families for their efforts in fundraising for the school. Thankfully the weather was good for our school walk. A big thank you to our Parent's Association for organising this and for the goodie bags at the end of the walk.

ARCHERY
Well done to all our children for participating in this year's Active Week. We are a school who works hard to maintain the standards of our Active Flag and we are lucky to have enthusiastic children and teachers to promote active learning and positive attitudes to physical wellness.
This year we tried something new and we were very fortunate to have archery coaches come to the school to introduce the school to this new sport. A special thanks to Richard Meacham for organising this.

We Are Writers
26/4/'23- Today children get to take home their own copy of the We Are Writers book. The children of Scoil Chaitríona wrote this book and it contains their stories, thoughts and creativity. This is a keepsake for all our families and a project to be proud of.

Sports Stars
We are very proud of these two sports stars who attended trials for four weeks in Charleville for Limerick soccer representing Cappamore FC. From the initial 86 players, they were part of the final 22 chosen and now form part of the U11 Limerick Soccer team. Well done Seánie and Liam.
EASTER FUN

We have a lovely tradition of an Easter Egg Hunt in our school. Unfortunately due to the weather we could not have it out doors this year but the Easter Bunny found lots of places to hide our eggs in the classrooms. Many thanks to all who supported our Easter Cake Sale also. We raised a fantastic €520.

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2023
We had great fun this year for Seachtain na Gaeilge. We had a Tráth na gCeist in our Senior Classes. Bhí céilí mór againn sa chlós and the children were all singing "Is Mise Fear an Cheoil" sa chlós freisin. This is a great occasion to support ár dteanga dhúchais.

WORLD BOOK DAY 2023
For World Book Day this year we held a monster table quiz in the school. Great fun was had by all. We also had the Scholastic Book Fair in the school where children could purchase books and enjoy time reading. This year every child wrote a story or a poem and it was published in our own edition of "We Are Writers". These books are available to purchase from the school and are a wonderful keepsake of your children's creativity.
Pancake Tuesday 2023
Pancake Tuesday is always a special occasion in our school to mark the beginning of Lent and this year was no different with the children coming up with very creative designs for their pancakes and they were just as tasty!!
AMBER FLAG
PYJAMA DAY
3/2/'23 - The children had a really special day in support of Liskennett Farm which provides equine assisted therapy for children with autism. Children from Scoil Chaitriona regularly visit Liskennett Farm and enjoy the experience so much. Not only was it a fundraiser but it was also a day for our Amber Flag Initiative which promotes positive mental health in schools. The children had a uniform free day in their comfy pyjamas and were given hot chocolate and a more relaxed day in school with a movie and yoga in the class. It's good to take a break from the books some times. Thank you to Ms. O' Brien for organising this.
PEACE PROMS 2023
Congratulations to all our children and staff who performed in the Peace Proms Concert in UL on the 21st of January in front of a jam packed audience and with a full symphony orchestra. This was an amazing opportunity for our children. Great credit to them for learning off the full repertoire of music and all their dances - even using sign language for one of their songs. Our sincere thanks to Ms. O' Dwyer, Ms. Armitage, Ms. Power and Mary Coffey for teaching all the music and dances and accompanying the children on the day. And also to all the parents who came on the night to support their wonderful children. It was a day they will never forget. What a great way too start off the New Year.

SANTA CLAUS CAME TO SCOIL CHAITRIONA
We got a big surprise when Santa arrived on his sleigh to deliver selection boxes to all the boys and girls. He said he would see them soon and they were all on the "NICE" List. Our thanks to our local Centra, Mary Coffey and our Parent's Association for supplying the selection boxes.
PAST PUPIL IS A CHRISTMAS STAR
Over the Christmas, you might get a chance to see the panto Jack and the Beanstalk in the Limetree Theatre in Limerick. It stars our own past pupil Eleanor O' Brien who is playing the leading role.
PANTO IN UL
We had a great day in UL when we went to see the pantomime "Peter Pan" - Oh YES WE DID!! The children got to enjoy a wonderful Christmas tradition with their friends.
CHRISTMAS 2022
What an amazing few weeks we have had in Scoil Chaitríona preparing for Christmas. We have been taking part in the Advent Ceremonies every Saturday night at mass and singing in the choir.
We had our Parent's Association Carol Singing Fundraiser on Saturday 10th and we were thrilled with the children and parents who turned up on a cold Winter's night to spread the spirit of Christmas with the parishioners of Cappamore. Our thanks to Michael O' Brien who accompanied the children on the guitar and added so much to the festive atmosphere
Our highlight this year was our Christmas Pageant - "It's a Miracle" which we performed in St. Michael's Church on Tuesday 13th of December. The children were at their very best and the church was thronged with family and friends who were entertained from the very start. Well done to all involved. A special thanks goes to Brian Sullivan, Aidan's dad, who provided sound and lights on the night and to Josephine Blackwell who took all the lovely photos as well.

Our Parent's Association have organised a carol singing fundraiser for children, parents and staff before mass on Saturday the 10th of December at 7pm.

Our Christmas Pageant is back this year. The pageant will be performed on Tuesday the 13th of December at 7.30pm in St. Michael's Church.

11/11/'22 A huge thank you to our Parents Association and all their helpers for a brilliant night in O 'Dwyers in aid of Scoil Chaitríona. It was so good to see so many familiar faces of present and past parents all out enjoying themselves and supporting our school. Thank you so much to Clodagh, Elaine, Sheila and Liz Meacham for all the work they put into the event. It was a great success and raised over €2,000. Thank you to all the people who donated to the quiz and to O' Dwyers for hosting the event.

Heritage in the School Visit
8/11/'22 We had a brilliant visit from Fiona who worked with the senior classes on songwriting using local stories and the junior classes had a sound exploration workshop on the theme of nature.

The children had a brilliant time with the break time Monster Mash disco, Pumpkin Toss, Make a Mummy, What time is it Mr. Wolf, Musical Ghostly Statues, Marshmallow Toss, the Spider's Web Obstacle and Ghoulish Eyeball and Spoon races. We hope the children enjoyed all the fun and games.
Titans of Tae Kwon Do
Congratulations to our own Liam and Seanie for their achievements in Tae Kwon Do over the weekend. We are very proud of you both - well done!
Our Annual School Dinner
13/10/'22 - Today we had our annual school dinner. The children were ready with their bowls and spoons and came back for seconds and thirds of our home cooked pasta bolognese and jelly and ice cream. Many thanks to all our parents who helped out on the day, cooking and serving the food to the children. We hope everyone enjoyed it.

National Tree Day
6/10'22 - What a great day we had in Curraghchase with our Infant Classes, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th celebrating National Tree Day. We spent the day learning about trees and enjoying being outside in a beautiful forest. We are very grateful to our wonderful guides from Coillte who shared their expertise with us and every family received a lovely holly tree to grow at home.
