Science Week 2022
We had a busy week this week. Our theme for the month is Italy, so we decided to include our theme in Science Week! We investigated a chemical reaction to make our volcanos erupt! We also made some very colourful lava lamps.
We investigated the force of air with our balloon rocket experiment. We were also treated to a very interesting Zoom call 'Wild about Wildlife on the Sea Shore', where the children had the chance to ask lots of questions about wildlife on the beaches and in the waters around Ireland.
The children also had the fantastic opportunity to visit Mary Immaculate College for the Science Week 2022 STEM workshop "Bigger, Better, Brainteaser Bandits"! The children came up with some fantastic designs for a catapult! We had a great day out.

Project Work: Rivers and Oceans
During the month of October the children created some excellent projects. They created a 3D mini-project based on the journey of the river and the water cycle. They also did lots of research on the different oceans of the world. They collected information about the main sources of pollution in the oceans, and the effects it is having on ocean life. The children presented their projects to the rest of the class.
Maths Week 2022
There were lots of activities happening in our classroom this week for Maths Week 2022. We had a Maths trail outside, where we did lots of measuring and collected data from the traffic passing by. We also completed lots of Maths activities on the i-pads and interactive whiteboard. The children also created their own Maths word problems, and everyone had an opportunity to answer their classmates problem. We even decorated our classroom door with them!

Sandra Silberzweig
We drew portraits with wonderful designs influenced by a contemporary artist from Toronto called Sandra Silberzweig. She had a condition called synesthesia which means she can see, hear and taste colours . So her work is very, very colourful. She was influenced by Picasso's art,. We liked her work so much we were inspired to try our own portraits. We used sugar paper, chalk pastels and black sharpies. We think they turned out really well and brighten up our classroom beautifully.
Quiz on Europe
On Monday the 10th of May 2021 we participated in an international quiz about Europe to celebrate Europe Day. We had to do a lot of studying beforehand. The quiz was very challenging, but we all did our best. There were many easy questions, but many difficult ones too. At the end, three girls with the highest score in the class received a fantastic prize.
We all had a splendid day.
