Supporting our colleague Shauna
6/1/'26 - Our friend and colleague Shauna is continuing her fundraising for CUH and has asked that we share her latest fundraiser with the Scoil Chaitríona community.
CHRISTMAS IN SCOIL CHAITRÍONA
What an amazing Christmas we had this year. Our Christmas pageant was a huge success and every single child shone on the altar as has been the tradition for many years now. It's hard to believe that it all comes together in just over two weeks.
Our Christmas raffle had every boy and girl going home with a lovely present. Our thanks to all the staff for donating all the gifts for the children. Their generosity puts an extra smile on the children's faces. The money raised from the raffle and the Christmas Pageant will be partly shared with the Cliona's Foundation, a stationary store will be created for the children and the rest will go on a special surprise for the children.
Our thanks to the Students Council for selling the Pageant tickets and the raffle tickets.
We then had a visit from the man himself - SANTA - and the children got such a surprise. Santa brought all the children a selection box and they got their photo taken with him.
To top it all off, we visited the Day Care Centre and performed some of the songs from our Christmas Pageant. We received a very warm reception from the staff and ladies and gentlemen attending the Day Care. Valerie was lovely to the children and they all got sweets and drinks after.
Finally the staff of Scoil Chaitríona presented our colleague Shauna with a cheque for €365 for her fundraising efforts for Cork University Hospital after her treatment there. Shauna continues to fundraise for such a worthy cause.

Visit to the Cappamore Firestation
20/10'25 - Our children paid a visit to the Firestation in Cappamore in advance of it closing for refurbishment. Stephen spoke to the children about what they should do in case there is a fire in their home. They also got an opportunity to fire the water hose and their aim was pretty good. It was a great opportunity for the children to see what a fire fighter's job entails and also to highlight the dangers of fireworks and bonfires in the lead up to Halloween.
Maths Week 2025
17/10/'25 - Our classes were busy this week putting all their mathematical knowledge to the test in a fun way. We celebrated Maths Week with the 3rd and 4th classes visiting the infants and 1st and 2nd to play maths games with them.

Heritage in the Classroom
3/10/'25 - We were delighted to welcome Anthony Galvin from Heritage in the Classroom who gave an enthralling visit to all our classes. Infants were entertained with traditional folk tales of Autumn, 1st and 2nd learnt about pirate history and the story of Anne Bonny, while 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th were given a presentation on Tom Crean and stories of other explorers of Antartica. It was a very informative and entertaining visit.
School Walk
1/10/'25 - Our annual Parents Association fundraiser managed to dodge the rain and it was a huge success. This year we took a new route following suggestions from our Parents Association, and we used the new walking path in the GAA grounds for the Senior Walk. Our Junior Walk still followed the traditional route around The Pound. We are very grateful for all the fundraising and especially to our Parents Association for organising this event. The children were also treated by the PA to fruit, popcorn and a refreshing drink after the walk. It was very welcome. Well done everybody.
Garda Clifford Visits Scoil Chaitriona
29/09/'25 - We arranged for Garda John Clifford (Community Guard) to speak to the children about being safe at Halloween and being kind to the people in our community. The infants were treated to a tour of the Garda van and some of the 1st and 2nd class children were like Harry Houdini getting out of the handcuffs. Many thanks to Garda Clifford for visiting us.
SNA Appreciation Day
25/09'25 - Thursday the 25th of September was SNA Appreciation Day and we are beyond grateful to all our SNAs for the tireless work they do with all our children but especially our children with additional needs. They are the constant support and comfort to our children and their dedication is boundless. To mark the day, the SNAs had a break from their usual yard duty and were treated in the staffroom and given a certificate of gratitude for all their hard work. So to Mary, Breda, Gráinne, Sharon, Laura, Orla, Michelle, Liz and Shauna, we thank you for all you do.
Our Millennium Time Capsule.
2000-2025
What an amazing day we had on the 8th of September when our school community and past pupils, parents and members of the local community gathered in our hall to unveil our Millennium Capsule. We were visited by a Time Traveller - Doc Clock who took us all back to the year 2000 and we sang our own version of the Year 2000 song. The children had prepared projects on the news of the Millennium, toys and movies that were popular that year and inventions of the time. Great credit is given to all involved in putting the day together as it was so close to the start of term. There was a gallery of photos of staff and pupils from that year and especially of the Millennium celebrations held in the school. We were honoured to have been joined by our former Principal, Mrs. Maura Walsh who recalled how the Capsule came to be and the creative minds behind it. The capsule was opened with great ceremony by Anthony Cosgrave who originally sealed it and we were delighted to welcome back Helen Walsh who was the artist for the capsule and Seamus Fleming who crafted the bespoke cabinet for the capsule. Missing on the day was Brian O' Neill who designed it but he was remembered and thanked. It was a pleasure to see so many past pupils and they were thrilled to hear their letters from the past read out. Our "Millennium Song", composed for the occasion in the year 2000, survived on a cassette tape and was played with past pupils joining in as it came flooding back to them. We had a lovely gathering afterwards and old friends got a chance to say hello. Our thanks to the Parents Association for facilitating this gathering. We were amazed at the crowd of people who came to the school and it is a testament to the education and impact Scoil Chaitríona has made on the community of Cappamore where our school is at the heart of the village.
Welcome to our lovely new

UNVEILING OF
THE CONVENT SCHOOL
MILLENNIUM TIME CAPSULE
25 YEARS LATER
Please join us on the 8th of September to open our Millennium Time Capsule. This was filled with notes, recordings and drawings in the year 2000 and it will be an exciting occasion to unveil the thoughts and words of the children of that year. We are especially hopeful that pupils who attended The Convent School in the year 2000 can be present for this special event.
